Emma McNally is an artist who has a deep interest in rhythm and space and conveys this is to some amazing carbon and graphite pieces. She’s really a cartographer or at least that’s how her work comes across, as these extensive maps of sound and rhythm.
“Focusing on rhythm as an expression of the dynamic of forming/unforming, McNally thinks this through graphically by highly charged percussive mark-making. Lines carry force, like the pulse of an ECG or a measure of seismic activity.” I took this passage from her Flickr profile because I think it so accurately describes her work. Its so beautiful.
